This article analyzes two overlapping issues. In the first place, I start from two ethnographic experiences to reflect on the assumptions that are mobilized and from which a relationship is established with a different other; From there, I reflect on the discontinuity between political intentionality and the capacity for intervention. Specifically, through the review of a situation that arose in a feminist workshop with female prisoners in unit No. 33 of the province of Buenos Aires, which had me as the protagonist, I will seek to make visible the risks involved in ignoring constitutive aspects of the reality that criticizes and seeks to transform. In addition, I will recover the testimony of a prison guard to point out that the will to “know” –even from positions that seek to control or dominate- the “other” in its specificity, can be politically essential, but also ethnocentric, recognition.
