Una obra inédita de Pierre-Paul Proud’Hon: Selene y Endimión.: Expertización, estudio de fuentes gráficas y formales

    El presente artículo da a conocer una obra inédita del pintor francés Pierre-Paul Prud’hon (1758-1823). La representación del mito clásico de Selene y Endimión es la temática de esta obra que, si bien es un género que el autor abordó mayormente en su juventud: la mitología, trata de un “asunto amoroso” que, en todo momento a lo largo de su carrera profesional, fue objeto de su interés e inequívoca seña de identidad. El análisis estilístico y técnico comparativo de esta pintura con otras obras del autor y de otros pintores coetáneos, más las probables influencias varias de la concepción de esta obra, quedan expuestos y desarrollados a lo largo de este artículo. La confrontación con la bibliografía especializada sobre el autor, tan profusa desde el año siguiente a su deceso, aporta las claves para la identificación técnica y metodológica de esta obra que, junto con la comparación gráfica de otras obras suyas hace la hipótesis de autoría refrendada aquí más evidente.

    This article presents an unpublished work by the French painter Pierre-Paul Prud’hon (1758-1823). The depiction of the classical myth of Selene and Endymion is the theme of this work that, although it is a genre that the author dealt with mostly in his youth: mythology, deals with a “love affair” that, at all times throughout his professional career, was the object of his interest and an unequivocal sign of identity. The comparative stylistic and technical analysis of this painting with other works by the author and other contemporary painters, plus the probable various influences on the conception of this work, are exposed and developed throughout this article. The comparison with the specialized bibliography on the author, so profuse since the year following his death, provides the keys for the technical and methodological identification of this work that, together with the graphic juxtaposition of other works of his, makes the hypothesis of authorship endorsed here more evident.
