  En el siglo XIII y XIV hubo un intento de armonizar la actividad comercial a la luz de las normas éticas en sintonía con el rápido desarrollo de los negocios transnacionales y los consiguientes cambios políticos y sociales. Pero también, en esa época, empieza a surgir una tensión entre la autonomía del análisis de los hechos económicos y el arraigo aún fuerte a la perspectiva teológica. Este artículo reflexiona sobre el pensamiento económico escolásti­co, su relación con la ética y su impacto en la historia de la civilización occi­dental. También estudia la cultura y sociedad de ese tiempo; expone el pen­samiento de Duns Escoto y la utilidad subjetiva; y plantea conceptos como necesidad, precios, usura e interés.

  In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries there was an attempt to harmonize business activity given the ethical standards attuned to the rapid development of transnational business and the consequent political and so­cial changes. But also, at that time, a tension began to emerge between the autonomy of the analysis of economic facts and the still strong attachment to the theological perspective. This article reflects on scholastic economic thought, its relationship with ethics and its impact on the history of Western civilization. It also studies the culture and society of that time; exposes Duns Scotus’ thought and subjective utility; and outlines concepts such as need, prices, usury and interest.
