Resumen de Introducción de la penicilina en Bizkaia por el puerto de Bilbao

  Objetivos: Avanzar en el conocimiento de la introducción de la penicilina en Bizkaia, en primer lugar, a través del estudio de un mercado regular e irregular en los puertos de Bilbao y Santurtzi, y más adelante analizando las primeras prescripciones y dispensaciones legales.Métodos: Hemos utilizado tanto fuentes primarias como secundarias. En el primer caso nos basamos en testimonios orales, en los archivos de la consignataria Pérez y Cía. y la Farmacia Museo Aramburu de Plentzia y en las actas de los Colegios de Médicos y de Farmacéuticos de Bizkaia, y del Centro Farmacéutico Vizcaino. En el segundo caso mediante el uso de la abundante hemeroteca y los trabajos publicados en el entorno de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y de la Universidad de Alcalá.Resultados: El grueso de la importación española de la penicilina desde los EE.UU. llegó por vía marítima al puerto de Bilbao. De allí, se envió a Madrid para su distribución al resto del estado. En Bizkaia los primeros suministros de penicilina se realizaron a través del Gobierno Civil. Posteriormente esta tarea se encomendó al Colegio Oficial de Farmacéuticos de Vizcaya primero y a las farmacias vizcaínas después. Se detecta también un suministro irregular de penicilina en los muelles de los puertos de Bilbao y Santurtzi.Conclusiones: Los barcos de la Compañía Trasatlántica Española descargaron en Bizkaia gran cantidad de penicilina oficial, y también irregular desde los EE.UU. En ese sentido parece que Bizkaia fue afortunada porque el antibiótico estaba en los muelles a la espera de quien quisiera comprarlo. No parece que existieran mafias organizadas a gran escala para la venta ilegal de penicilina.

  Objectives: To advance in the knowledge of the introduction of penicillin in Bizkaia, firstly, through the study of a regular and irregular market in the ports of Bilbao and Santurtzi, and later by analyzing the first prescriptions and legal dispensations.Methods: We have used both primary and secondary sources. In the first case, we rely on oral testimonies, in the files of the consignee Pérez y Cía. and the Aramburu Museum Pharmacy in Plentzia and in the minutes of the Bizkaia Medical and Pharmaceutical Colleges, and the Vizcaino Pharmaceutical Center. In the second case, by the abundant newspaper library and the works published in the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Alcalá.Results: The bulk of Spanish imports of penicillin from the US arrived by sea at the port of Bilbao. From there, it was sent to Madrid for distribution to the rest of the state. In Bizkaia, the first supplies of penicillin were made through the Civil Government. Subsequently, this task was entrusted to the Official College of Pharmacists of Vizcaya first and to the Vizcaya pharmacies later. An irregular supply of penicillin was also detected in the docks of the ports of Bilbao and Santurtzi.Conclusions: The ships of the Spanish Transatlantic Company unloaded a large amount of official penicillin in Bizkaia, and irregular penicillin from the US. In this sense, it seems that Bizkaia was lucky because the antibiotic was on the docks waiting for anyone who wanted to buy it. It does not appear that there were large-scale organized mafias for the illegal sale of penicillin.
