El corolario de Rutherford Hayes y su visión hacia la geopolítica mundial

    A 200 años de haberse promulgado uno de los dogmas más trascendentales e influyentes para la política exterior de Estados Unidos, hablamos de la doctrina Monroe, dada a conocer el 2 de diciembre de 1823, poco se sabe sobre la primera de sus reinterpretaciones políticas surgida a finales del siglo XIX, y que sería eclipsada por la siguiente reinterpretación formulada por quien sería uno de los presidentes más polifacéticos de Estados Unidos a inicios del siglo XX, hablamos de Theodore Roosevelt y su corolario de Roosevelt, cuyo sustento ideológico de este último la podemos encontrar en los planteamientos del almirante Alfred Thayer Mahan de 1890, aunque el presidente de Estados Unidos Rutherford Hayes había visualizado mucho antes que el almirante Mahan la importancia de tener bajo control estadunidense la construcción de un canal interoceánico por cualquier vía a través del istmo americano (Museums, 2023), de ahí que la adquisición de las obras inconclusas del canal que construían los franceses en Panamá, será tema de estado para el presidente n.º 26 de Estados Unidos, Theodore Roosevelt, dado su importancia geopolítica y geoestratégica para la política exterior de Estados Unidos que se desarrollaría en el siglo XX.
