Resumen de El léxico de los prejuicios lingüísticos en las diatribas sobre el euskera

Este estudio pretende ser un capítulo del pensamiento (prejuicioso) sobre las lenguas en algunos textos del pasado, del siglo xii a las primeras décadas del xx. Presentaremos una muestra de términos calificativos (meliorativos y peyorativos) extraídos de un corpus selecto y que son reveladores de ciertas creencias acerca del euskera, en forma de defensa (de la propia lengua) o de ataque (hacia otra). En última instancia, pretendemos hacer (e invitar a) una reflexión –si siempre conveniente, más que necesaria en estos tiempos– sobre el entendimiento entre las lenguas, en la misma línea en que hace unos años se situaba Tu-són (1997) al denunciar el «ombliguismo lingüístico» que nos hace ver otras lenguas como defectuosas, frente a la perfección de la propia. Son «tópicos ideológicos» (Terracini 1992: 55-56), generalmente con un trasfondo social y político. Con los datos aquí aportados trataremos de abundar en la idea de que «la historia de las opiniones sobre el lenguaje es, en parte, una historia del prejuicio lingüístico» (Tusón 1997: 30).

This study aims to be a chapter on (prejudiced) thinking about languages in texts from the past, from the 12th century to the first decades of the 20th. We will present a sample of qualifying terms (meliorative and pejorative) extracted from a select corpus and that re-veal certain beliefs about Basque, in the form of defence (of one’s own language) or attack (towards another language). Ultimately, we intend to make (and invite) a reflection – if always convenient, more than necessary in these times – on the understanding between languages, in the same line in which Tusón (1997) stood a few years ago when denouncing the «linguistic navelism» that makes us see other languages as defective, compared to the perfection of our own. They are «ideological topics» (Terracini 1992: 55-56), generally with a social and political background. With the data provided here we will try to elaborate on the idea that «the history of opinions about language is, in part, a history of linguistic prejudice» (Tusón 1997: 30).
