    Una pregunta básica en los estudios sobre relativismo lingüístico es si nuestra lengua influye en nuestra forma de pensar. Existen varios acercamientos hacia el relativismo lingüístico y, por lo tanto, en este trabajo se seguirá el “enfoque centrado en la estructura” (Lucy, 1997). El objetivo de este estudio es investigar si la marcación de número del maya (con clasificadores numerales) y español (sin clasificadores numerales) conducen efectos cognitivos en niños bilingües maya-español a la hora de realizar una tarea no-verbal de clasificación de objetos. El resultado muestra que todos los niños del estudio conservan el “patrón cognitivo maya” que se observa en la selección de objetos basado en el material. Los bilingües en particular muestran cognición flexible que se observa en las diferencias de selección de material determinada por el contexto lingüístico de la tarea.

    The main question in Linguistic Relativism studies is whether our language in-fluences the way we think. There is a wide variety of approaches towards Linguistic Relativism; therefore, this work will be carried out within the “Structure-centered approach” (Lucy, 1997). The aim of this study is to investigate whether the number marking in Maya (with numeral classifiers) and in Spanish (without numeral classi-fiers) conduct cognitive effects in Maya-Spanish bilingual children when they perform a non-verbal task of object classification. The result shows that all the children in the study preserve the “Maya cognitive pattern”, observed in the selection of objects based on their material. Bilinguals in particular show flexible cognition, observed in the differences in material selection determined by linguistic context of the task.
