    Las venus paleolíticas han sido objeto de numerosos estudios, por los que han suscitado variadas teorías sobre su interpretación. La mayoría de éstas se relacionan con el engrosamiento de sus caracteres sexuales, principalmente los secundarios, y una aparente obesidad. Así, es común que se las relacione con la fertilidad o con modelos de belleza. Proponemos que esta morfología refleja la altricia-lidad secundaria humana y que la supuesta obesidad sobre todo en pechos, nalgas y caderas responde a una evolución del cuerpo femenino para la infancia y la niñez de la cría. Una interpretación basada en la fertilidad o en la belleza sería incompatible con estos rasgos altriciales. Más que a mujeres fértiles o bellas, representan a mujeres nutricias y cuidadoras

    The Venus figurines have been the subject of numerous studies, which have given rise to various theories about their interpretation. Most of these are related to the enlargement of their sex characteristics, mainly the secondary ones, and apparent obesity. Thus, it is common to relate them to fertility or to models of beauty. We propose that this morphology reflects human secondary altriciality and that this supposed obesity, especially in breasts, buttocks, and hips, responds to an evolution of the female body for the infancy and the childhood of the offspring. An interpretation based on fertility or beauty would be incompatible with these altricial traits. Rather than fertile or beautiful women, they represent nurturing and caregiving women
