    A partir del hallazgo de una pieza de plata mapuche con la representación de un pez espada (Xiphias gladius), katrüwe challwa en mapudungun, perteneciente a la colección del Museo Leandro Penchulef, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Villarrica (Región de La Araucanía), se indaga sobre diversos aspectos de la cultura material de este pueblo, así como las implicancias culturales, sociales y políticas de su mapuche rütram – arte de la platería. Particularmente se reflexiona sobre las estéticas utilizadas en la representación de este animal marino en diversas manifestaciones y sistemas de sentido, así como las formas de ver, modos de pensar y técnicas de hacer y los dispositivos visuales comprometidos en la creación y producción que visualizan y proyectan la existencia de un animal marino en los bosques fríos del sur de Chile.

    From the discovery of a piece of Mapuche silver with the representation of a swordfish (Xiphias gladius), katrüwe challwa in Mapudungun, from the collection of the Museo Leandro Penchulef, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Villarrica (Araucanía Region), this paper explores various aspects of the material culture of this people, as well as the cultural, social and political implications of their Mapuche rütram - art of silversmithing. In particular, it focuses on the aesthetics used in the representation of this marine animal in various expressions and systems of meaning, as well as the ways of seeing, ways of thinking and techniques of production, and the visual devices involved in the creation and production that display and propose the existence of a marine animal in the cold forests of southern Chile.
