    En el presente artículo abordamos, desde una perspectiva histórica y sociocultural, un conjunto de casos de suicidio ocurridos en la ciudad de Buenos Aires entre 1859 y 1888, con el fin de observar el contenido de los mensajes escritos por los hombres que se quitaron la vida y su relación con el horizonte masculino de expectativas de la época. Al mismo tiempo, al indagar estos referentes empíricos también prestamos especial atención a dos cuestiones. En primer lugar, observamos los distintos tipos de enunciados transmitidos en las notas (declarativos, expresivos, regulativos, etc.). Asimismo, al analizar estos discursos indagamos si el suicida se hacía responsable de lo sucedido, o, por otra parte, culpaba, directa o indirectamente, a otros de sus actos.

    This article addresses, from a historical and sociocultural perspective, a set of suicide cases that occurred in the city of Buenos Aires between 1859 and 1888, in order to observe the content of the messages written by the men who took off their life and its relationship with the masculine horizon of expectations of the time. At the same time, when investigating these empirical referents, special attention is also paid to two questions. In the first place, the different types of statements transmitted in the notes (declarative, expressive, regulative, etc.) are observed. Likewise, when analyzing these speeches, it is investigated whether the suicide was responsible for what happened, or, on the other hand, blamed, directly or indirectly, others for his acts.
