  • Resumen
    • In 1297, the Flemish theologian Nichasius de Planca wrote an allegorical prosimetrum De precepto Prudentie, modelled on Boethius. In the first book, Nichasius describes how he is commissioned by the personified Prudentia to promote within the scholastic milieu the intellectual benefits of the scorned poetry (this refers primarily to the pagan poetry of antiquity). In the second book, the author carries out this mission with the help of Aristotelian methods. Among the pagan poets, Ovid in particular is recommended for his Metamorphoses. Nichasius praises him in panegyric verses as an ideal author who conveys ethical, natural-philosophical and theological truths. The poem is edited here for the first time and interpreted in the light of its poetic models (especially Matthew of Vendôme).
