Cultes d’Iris en Grèce ancienne: un état de la question

    The article goes through the attestations of cult presence of the goddess Iris in Greece and in Magna Grecia, and reconsiders the testimony of Semos of Delos (3rd c. BC), transmitted by Athenaeus, concerning offerings presented to Iris on the « island of Hecate ». This island has been identified with Megálos Rheumatiárēs, between Delos and Rhenea, or with the eastern part of the island of Rhenea itself. This study presents the elements linking Iris, the messenger goddess, to Hecate, deity of the in-between. For this purpose, we will examine the modes of action of the two goddesses implying a role of mediation as well as a relation to various spaces, notably through an epiclesis of Hecate, attested in Sicily : Ángelos, « Messenger ».

    L’article parcourt les attestations d’une présence cultuelle de la déesse Iris dans des cités de Grèce et de Grande-Grèce, et revient sur le témoignage de Sémos de Délos (iiie s. av. J.‑C.), transmis par Athénée, concernant des offrandes présentées à Iris sur l’« île d’Hécate ». Cette île a été identifiée tantôt à Megálos Rheumatiárēs, entre Délos et Rhénée, tantôt à la partie orientale de l’île de Rhénée elle-même. Cette étude se propose de faire le point sur les éléments qui peuvent relier Iris, la déesse messagère, à une puissance divine de l’entre-deux comme Hécate. Pour ce faire, on réfléchira aux modes d’action des deux déesses impliquant un rôle de médiation ainsi qu’une relation à divers espaces, notamment par le biais d’une épiclèse d’Hécate, attestée en Sicile, à savoir : Ángelos, « Messagère ».
