Synechococcus is one of the most important cyanobacteria in marine ecosystems.Recent findings have shown the ability of this cyanobacteria to produce vesiclesand release them into the ocean, which makes it necessary to characterize them, inorder to clarify their possible functions and the factors affecting their production. For this purpose, we have examined the growth of Synechococcus sp. WH 7803and Synechococcus sp. WH 8102 cultures under different stress conditions: lightshock and nutrient starvation (nitrogen and phosphorous). We measured the vesicleconcentration by nanoparticle tracking analysis (NanoSight) and characterizedtheir protein content. Our results showed that the light shock, as well as nitrogen starvation, affectsboth the growth and vesicle release in both strains. However, phosphorous starvation, although it causes an increase in vesicle release, has no consequences on culturegrowth. Preliminary quantitative proteomics results show abundance changesin vesicles proteins after the light shock Synechococcus sp. WH 7803.
