Resumen de Ana y Mia: Espacios fluidos, espacios políticos y controversias médicas

María González Aguado

  • Ana and Mia. Fluid Spaces, Political spaces and Medical controversies The present text develops an ontological analysis of anorexia and bulimia nervosas with the aims of shedding a light on the controversies regarding their aetiolology as well as making sense of the so-called Ana and Mia groups’ narratives; and finally, deconstruct the supposed normality of the virtual communities aimed to loose weight on-line. The article will try both to demonstrate that Ana and Mia’s knowledge production can be understood as a political claim and explain the reasons why pro-diet groups do not generate either medical or social warnings in spite of their potential danger. For doing so, he mentioned syndromes will be conceptualized as being hybrid entities able of embodying and generating new meanings across cyberspace applying Haraway’s notion of “material-semiotic system”. It will be explained how eating disorders on the Internet are the enactment of different objects within different contexts instead of being just controversial objects for medicine and society.
