Resumen de Entre la naturaleza y la norma moral: el papel ético-político de la compasión en la discusión contemporánea

En este trabajo me interesa mostrar el carácter paradojal de la compasión en tanto se trata de una emoción que oscila entre lo natural y lo normativo. No se trata de determinar el origen de la emoción. Mi objetivo es, de hecho, mucho más modesto: intentaré acentuar su valor moral y político. Gracias a ese pendular entre la naturaleza y la norma moral, la compasión pone en cuestionamiento las bases sobre las que se construye una comunidad ética, el rol que juega el sufrimiento, y las consecuencias y los límites de esta emoción trágica como respuesta ético-política en el contexto contemporáneo. En un primer momento, señalaré algunos elementos clásicos que permitieron acentuar la naturalidad de la respuesta compasiva frente al sufrimiento. Luego, mostraré los aspectos sociales y normativos que configuran a la emoción como virtud política. Finalmente, a partir de las herramientas que Ricoeur ofrece en su “pequeña ética”, intentaré mostrar que la noción de solicitud permitiría sortear algunos de los problemas que plantea el carácter paradojal de la compasión.

In this paper, I am interested in showing the paradoxical nature of compassion, as it is an emotion that oscillates between nature and moral norm. It is not about determining the origin of the emotion. My goal is, in fact, much more modest. I will try to emphasize its moral and political value. Thanks to this constant pendular motion between nature and the moral norm, compassion allows us to question the foundations on which an ethical community is built, the role played by suffering and the consequences and limits of this tragic emotion as an ethical-political response in the contemporary context. First, I will point out some classic elements that allowed to accentuate the naturalness of the compassionate response to suffering. Then, I will show the social and normative aspects that configure emotion as a political virtue. Finally, based on the tools that Ricoeur offers in his “Little ethics”, I will try to show that the notion of solicitude would allow us to overcome some of the problems posed by the paradoxical nature of compassion.
