    On this work we analyze the role of the interamerican system of human rights in the protection of electoral rights and of the practical effects that can be obtain through it. Insofar as political rights are human rights they are also subject to international systems of protection.

    It is verified that in diferent areas, the interamerican system has proved to be an important mechanism for human rights in Brazil as we show in the analysis of some major cases. We tackle the importance of the brazilian judiciary on the performance of the interamerican system and the role of electoral judges, specially its performance on the electoral constitutional review, acting as true intermaerican judges. Finally, we verify that elctoral tribunals have been performing in a rather timid way regarding these functions, which show a lot of room for the improvment of the protection of political and electoral rights

    O presente trabalho se dedica à análise do papel ocupado pelo sistema interamericano na proteção de direitos políticos eleitorais, e os efeitos práticos que podem ser obtidos através dele. Foi demonstrado que, por se tratarem de direitos humanos, os direitos políticos também são objeto dos sistemas internacionais de proteção. Verificou-se que em diversas áreas, o sistema interamericano tem se mostrado com um mecanismo importante de direitos humanos no Brasil, tendo sido analisados alguns importantes casos. Abordou-se a importância do judiciário brasileiro no desempenho de sua função no sistema interamericano, e do papel dos juízes eleitorais em um ambiente de pluralidade de ordens jurídicas protetivas de direitos eleitorais, notadamente sua atuação no controle de convencionalidade eleitoral, atuando como verdadeiros juízes interamericanos. Por fim, verificouse que os tribunais eleitorais ainda estão desempenhando de forma extremamente tímida essas atribuições, existindo um caminho bastante amplo a ser visitado na defesa dos direitos político eleitorais
