Resumen de La corrispondenza tra Delio Cantimori e Werner Kaegi. Note su un’edizione infelice

Nicola D'Elia

  • This paper analyses the correspondence between Delio Cantimori and Werner Kaegi, published under the auspices of the Scuola Normale Superiore. Cantimori and Kaegi exchanged more than 300 letters over a period of more than thirty years, sign of a close friendship. Their correspondence provides new insight into their intellectual biographies. In particular, it offers significant details about the story of the German edition of Cantimori’s major work, Eretici italiani del Cinquecento, which was carried out in Switzerland on Kaegi’s initiative. In some aspects, this story departs from the account provided by Kaegi himself later. Unfortunately, the edition of the CantimoriKaegi correspondence is not philologically accurate and contains many errors and inconsistencies. Moreover, the introduction reveals a superficial approach to the sources, failing to acknowledge the new elements that the correspondence brings to light. Even the title is misleading
