    Susan M. McKenna analiza con minuciosidad la innovación narrativa de los cuentos de Emilia Pardo Bazán, teniendo en cuenta su condición de mujer, su posición social, sus ideas y su vida. No solamente se centra en la escritura de la gallega, sino en la relación de su literatura con la prensa, otros autores de la época que también escribían narraciones cortas… Cada capítulo se centra en aspectos distintos, como en el género cuentístico, los finales de los cuentos de Pardo Bazán, como los que retan a los lectores a pensar más allá. Hacia el final del libro también se trata la subjetividad femenina y se expone como conclusión el arte estratégico de Emilia Pardo Bazán para incluirla en sus cuentos.

    Susan M. McKenna carefully analyzes the narrative innovation of Emilia Pardo Bazán's stories, taking into account her status as a woman, her social position, her ideas and her life. It not only focuses on the Galician's writing, but also on the relationship between her literature and the press, other authors of the time who also wrote short stories... Each chapter focuses on different aspects, such as the short story genre, the endings of Pardo Bazán's stories, like those that challenge readers to think beyond. Towards the end of the book, female subjectivity is also discussed and the strategic art of Emilia Pardo Bazán is exposed as a conclusion to include it in her stories.
