Ciudadanía social y cultural: perspectiva histórica y retos del aprendizaje ciudadano en el siglo XX

    El artículo ofrece una reflexión sobre la génesis histórica de la ciudadanía en el contexto de la modernidad; señala los nexos con la constitución de los estados nacionales, y el lugar que tuvo la educación en la creación de comunidades po-líticas conformadas por ciudadanos libres. El estudio destaca, en primer lugar, las profundas modificaciones que ha sufrido la ciudadanía a lo largo del siglo XX y, en segundo lugar, la necesidad de que la historiografía de la educación incorpo-re otros enfoques analíticos además de la teoría liberal, que ha ejercido una am-plia influencia. Esta renovación analítica contribuirá con herramientas teóricas y metodológicas que permitan reelaborar la categoría de ciudadanía, para com-prender mejor los procesos históricos de los últimos siglos, así como las expec-tativas planteadas a comienzos del siglo XXI.

    The artic1e offers a reflection on the hístorical origín of citizenship in the context of modernity, and explores the links for the making of national States and the ro-le that education played in the creatíon of polítical communities conformed by free citizens. The essay outlines, on the one hand, the profound modifications that citizenship had experienced during the twentieth century, and on the other hand, the necessity of educational historiography to incorporate other analytical approaches besides liberal theory, that so far has had a wide influence. This ap-proach will contribute with methodological and theoretical tools that permit the re-elaboration of the concept of citizenship, in order to better understand the his-torical process in the last centuries, as well as the new expectations formulated at the beginning of the Twenty-first century.
