El estudio pretende investigar el vínculo que Bárbara Jacobs y Jorge Asís, autores latinoamericanos de origen árabe, mantienen, en su producción narrativa, con el mundo medio oriental de sus ancestros. El análisis se dirige a la representación del migrante árabe y su reconstrucción como respuesta al discurso orientalista presente en la literatura latinoamericana. De tal forma, el “árabe” se (re)incorpora, como elemento cultural, al imaginario latinoamericano y convierte a los autores en agentes culturales en México y Argentina. El objetivo es demonstrar que, los nietos de estos flujos migratorios hacen patente, en sus textos, un cambio de discurso que contrarresta la imagen de Oriente y del migrante como inmutable e inamovible.

The study aims to investigate the connection that Bárbara Jacobs and Jorge Asís, Latin American writers without Arab ancestry, maintain, in their narrative production, with the Middle Eastern world of their ancestors. The analysis addresses the representation of the Arab migrant and his reconstruction as a response to the orientalist discourse present in Latin American literature. In this way, the “Arab” is (re)incorporated, as a cultural element, into the Latin American imaginary and turns the authors into cultural agents in Mexico and Argentina. The objective is to demonstrate that the grandchildren of these migratory flows make clear, in their texts, a change of discourse that counteracts the image of the East and of the migrant as immutable and immovable.
