  • The manufacture of steel in an electric arc furnace produces between 100 and 200 kilograms of slag per ton of steel. That means 600.000 tons of slag in the Basque Country each year. This waste has good properties as alternate aggregates used by the construction industry, as shows the experience of other industrialized countries that are using it from fifties. This article provides exhaustive information about technical and environmental aspects that will help to evaluate this kind of residue behaviour.
