  • Resumen
    • The objective was to evaluate the response of dairy goats to soybean oil (SBO) supplementation under thermal-neutral (TN) or heat stress (HS) conditions. Eight multiparous Murciano-Granadina dairy goats kept in metabolic cages were used in 4×4 Latin square (4 periods; 21 d each). Factors were: 1) TN (15 to 20°C), 2) HS (12 h/d at 37°C and 12 h/d at 30°C), 3) control diet (C), and 4) diet supplemented with 4% SBO. Feed intake, milk yield, water consumption, rectal temperature (RT), and respiration rate (RR) were recorded daily. Milk samples were collected for composition and fatty acid profile. Compared to TN, HS goats had lower (P < 0.01) feed intake, milk yield, and milk protein. Water consumption, RT, and RR increased (P < 0.001). The SBO increased milk fat by more than 30% and CLA by more than 360%. The SBO supplementation increased milk fat with the same magnitude regardless the ambient temperature. The milk of goats fed SBO contained more CLA and long chain fatty acids than that of C goats.
