Resumen de Familiarità e servizio: i nobiles provixionati viscontei

Fabio Romanoni

  • In the fourteenth century in the viscount state there were elite cavalry corps, regularly paid. Being a member of them was considered a source of prestige, inasmuch as caring for the prince’s personal protection: they were provisional “nobles”. However, Bernabò had probably conceived the provisional “nobles” with the intention of creating a stable and elite cavalry unit. These corps appeared since the very beginning of the lordship, although with Galeazzo II and Gian Galeazzo they were limited in number and with different characteristics.
