The analysis of the letters in the correspondence of the sculptor Bernard Lange that he wrote to the painter Jean Suau, as well as the discovery of a plaster of the "Venus de Milo" both shed new light on the early days of the sculpture in France. Two mysteries are solved: the disposition of the arms of the statue and the disappearance of the plinth mentioning the name of the artist.
