Resumen de Las teorías de la comunicación desde la alfabetización informacional y emocional: una experiencia universitaria de aprendizaje activo y pensamiento crítico

Eloísa Nos Aldás, Tamer Al Najjar Trujillo, Alessandra Farné

  • This chapter addresses the importance of the teaching-learning processes about media theories with Spanish university students, specifically in the course “Foundations of Communication Theory” held in the first year of the Undergraduate in Audiovisual Communication at the University Jaume I (Spain). The study focuses on the challenges of introducing complex theoretical content at the beginning of the degree. The historical development of a wide array of theoretical approaches, with their interdisciplinary, complicated and divergent nature, which are under a constant review, requires designing an applied and thrilling academic path to allow students acquiring basic competences for their academic, professional and civic development. This teaching experience covers a period of 4 years (2018-2022) in which the subject has been taught in person, online and blended format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The results indicate that the pedagogical and meth- odological approaches along with the materials and activities implemented had a positive impact, both quantitative and qualitatively, on students’ academic performance and appraisal of faculty. The conclusions support the relevance of including elements of critical thinking and information literacy as well as emotional and creative aspects in the learning-teaching process, particularly when dealing with complex theoretical content.
