  • Thirty-two Merino lambs (15.6 kg initial body weight, BW) were distributed in 4 experimental groups to study the effect of the inclusion of different levels of sunflower soapstock (SS) in the diet (0, 15, 30 and 60 g SS/kg TMR for Control, OG15, OG30 and OG60 groups, respectively) on the main fatty acids of their meat. Lambs were slaughtered at 27 kg BW, and longisimus lumborum muscles were extracted for fatty acid analysis. No significant differences were observed in most groups of fatty acids (P>0.05). In contrast, trans-MUFA content tended to be higher in response to SS inclusion (P<0.10). Atherogenic index and saturation index tended to decrease with SS inclusion in the diet (P<0.10). The inclusion of sunflower soapstock in the diet for fattening lambs can slightly improve lamb meat fatty acid profile.
