    • An in vitro experiment was carried out to evaluate of enzyme application on the fermentation of roughages. Two enzyme products with cellulase and xylanase activity and the combination of both products were applied in triplicate to corn stover, oat hay and cob leaves. Bottles with 500 mg of DM, 40 ml of buffer solution and 10 ml of ruminal fluid were incubated at 39°C for 48h. Dry matter (DM) degradability (DMD) was determined at the end of incubation. The residue of 48 h of incubation was analyzed for NDF and ADF. Hemicellulose content was calculated as the difference between NDF and ADF. Fibre degradability fractions were calculated. Data were analyzed using a factorial design 3 x 4 (3 forage species x 4 enzyme treatments). The DMD was affected (P=0,05) by the interaction between the forage and enzyme. Hemicellulose degradability was affected by the enzyme treatment (P<0,05) and roughage (P<0,001), while the NDF and ADF degradability were only influenced by the forage type (P<0,001). The results suggest that application of exogenous enzymes has the potential to alter hemicellulose degradability of low quality forages, but most of the results depend on the forage type and the interaction between the forage type and the enzyme used.
