The Araucana creole sheep is a type of animal from the area south of Chile present in herds of smallfarmers in the region of Araucania. With the goal of achieving racial characterization were evaluated94 adult females. 10 zoometric indices were calculated: cephalic (ICE), pelvic (IPE), corporal (ICO), proportionality(IPRO), compactness (IC), relative depth of the thorax (IPRP), dactyl-thoracic (IDT), transversalpelvic (IPET), longitudinal pelvic (IPEL) and relative thickness of the cannon bone (IERC).Descriptive statistical analysis showed that indices Araucanas zoometrics sheep characterized as thebrevilineal, large-sized according to dactyl-thoracic index, high compactness and submit a rump convexcurve. According to the IPET and IPEL indices, there is a tendency toward the development of muscletissue in the area of the most valuable cuts. The results obtained provide high zoometric indices presenting such racial trend meat aptitude, anability that would ensure their conservation by allowing selective application of criteria that lead to alower variability in the ethnological and functional characteristics
