Cambio social y patrimonialización de la Festa en Elche

    El Misteri o Festa d’Elx es la fiesta de un pueblo (Elche). Aunque ha pervivido desde la Edad Media, para preservarla en un contexto histórico de cambios profundos, se la sometió a dos patrimonializaciones en setenta años. En la actualidad, el Misteri sigue representándose; sin embargo, la actitud de la población local hacia esta Fiesta muestra una polarización que va desde la indiferencia de la gran mayoría al entusiasmo de una minoría, comprometida con su mantenimiento y continuidad. Es decir, se han generado formas nuevas, diferentes de las tradicionales, de relacionarse con la Festa, lo que, a su vez, supone nuevos significados culturales. En este artículo pretendemos determinar cuáles son esos nuevos significados sobre esta fiesta patrimonializada. Para ello analizamos discursos y prácticas de los agentes sociales locales, en especial aquellos implicados en su mantenimiento y salvaguarda (los depositarios del patrimonio inmaterial), relacionándolos con el contexto histórico que les da sentido y que se caracteriza por el cambio sociocultural permanente, y por la influencia de factores globalizadores en lo local, como el turismo y las distinciones Unesco.

    The Misteri or Festa d’Elx is the main festival of a town (Elche). Although it has survived from the Middle Ages, it was patrimonialised twice in seventy years to be preserved in a historical context of profound changes. Nowadays, the Misteri still is represented, nevertheless, the attitude of the local population towards this Festival shows a polarization that ranges from the indifference of the majority to the enthusiasm of a minority, committed to its maintenance and continuity. In other words, new ways of relating to the Festa have been generated, different from the traditional ones, which implies new cultural meanings. In this paper, we intend to point out these new meanings about this patrimonialised festival. To do this, we analyse discourses and practices of local social agents, especially those involved in their maintenance and safeguarding. We relate them to the historical context that gives them meaning and that is characterized by permanent sociocultural change, and by the influence of globalizing factors at the local level, such as tourism and UNESCO distinctions.
