Resumen de Vegetation Information Modeling (VIM): The Tree as the Main Element in the Construction Process of Landscape Architecture

David M. Torrejón García

  • Landscape architecture is becoming more relevant in the construction of urban public spaces, serving as a connecting means between the building and the urban infrastructure. However, the architecture and engineering industry are progressing with the incursion of the digitalization of information of its construction processes, through the implementation of the BIM methodology. This methodology is being standardized and becoming mandatory in public government projects. However, landscape architecture is lagging behind by not implementing this methodology in its public governmental construction projects. It is necessary to take actions based on the digitization of the information of a landscape architecture project, in order to integrate it into the BIM methodology. It should be taken into account that, in the construction of the landscape, vegetation is the main element and, considering the amount of information parameters involved in proposing it in an urban public space, it should be considered as a constructive element, therefore, the landscape architect has here an open window to start implementing the BIM methodology in urban scale projects
