Este artículo analiza el papel de la Unión Europea (UE) en la geopolítica global tras la pandemia del nuevo coronavirus. Parte de la premisa de que la pandemia acelera la crisis del multilateralismo y la rivalidad entre grandes potencias, lo que deja a la UE en una posición incómoda. Tras exponer cómo y por qué el sistema internacional ha pasado de la cooperación institucionalizada a la rivalidad geoestratégica, se analizan las bazas con las que cuenta la UE en las distintas estructuras del poder internacional para desarrollar autonomía estratégica en materia económica, tecnológica y de seguridad y defensa, con especial atención a cómo debe relacionarse con Estados Unidos y China.

This article discusses the role of the European Union (EU) in global geopolitics following the pandemic of the new coronavirus. It argues that the pandemic accelerates the crisis of multilateralism and the rivalry between great powers, leaving the EU in an uncomfortable position. It first explains how and why the international system has moved from institutionalized cooperation to geostrategic rivalry. Then, it focuses on the EU’s strengths in the various structures of international power and on its chances for developing strategic autonomy in economic, technological and security and defence matters. Finally, it explains how the EU should deal with the United States and China.
