  Este traballo estudia unha documentación descriptiva dun conxunto de montes veciñais da provincia de Pontevedra na derradeira parte do século XIX. Son momentos de grandes debates políticos en col das propiedades comunais; nestes debates é de suliñar a defensa dos colectivos forestais por manter estas propiedades en mans do Estado asegurarando dese xeito a viabilidade dos montes e a satisfación das necesidades en madeira e protección ambiental.A situación dos montes de veciños de Galicia o redor de 1886 pasaba pola presión exercida dende o ministerio de Facenda para súa desamortización e venda a particulares; ante esta situación e tra-lo informe dunha Comisión Forestal encárgase os Distritos a laboura dun inventario de montes susceptibles de enaxenación se non cumprían uns determinados requisitos.Parte dese traballo de inventariación preséntase nesta ponencia analizando a calidade das descripcións do medio natural, a productividade que dos montes obtiñan os veciños e o estado legal destas propiedades.

  A series of documents describing a group common lands in the province of Pontevedra at the end of the 19th Century are studied in this paper.Important political debates were going on at the time over commond lands. We should like to draw attention to the role of the foresters in defending the maintenance of these lands in the hands of state thus ensuring the viability of the woodland, timber demand as wellas environmental protection.The situation of these common lands in Galicia around 1886 was difficult because of the pressure from the Ministry of Finance that they be sold to private owners. Because of this and following a report given by a Forest Committee the District were required to make an inventory of the common forest lands which could be sold if they did not comply with certain requirements.Parts of a inventory are presented in this paper analizing the quality of the descriptions of the enviroment, the productivity obtained by neighbours from these lands and the legal status of said lands.
