De la liberación a la justicia: Reflexiones sobre John Rawls y Gustavo Gutiérrez

    El mismo año de 1971 en que el filósofo norteamericano John Rawls (1921- 2002) publicó su Teoría de la justicia también marcó el lanzamiento de la teología de la liberación con la publicación de la obra homónima del dominico peruano Gustavo Gutiérrez Merino (1928-). Por lo tanto, parece interesante relacionar a Rawls como representante del Norte global y a Gutiérrez como representante del Sur global con el objetivo de resaltar coincidencias y diferencias. A pesar de las diferentes epistemologías (razón / fe), preferencias políticas (socialismo / liberalismo) y métodos (punto de partida en términos de contenido y procedimiento formal), ambos enfoques coinciden en la preocupación por servir a una sociedad justa y bien ordenada (Rawls), que, según Gutiérrez, señala la llegada del Reino de Dios. Esta coincidencia se debe a un horizonte cristiano de la teoría secular de la justicia de Rawls y a una apertura de la teología de Gutiérrez al pensamiento secular, y simboliza un importante y valioso entendimiento Norte-Sur dentro de un mundo que se globaliza y regionaliza.

    The same year of 1971 in which the American philosopher John Rawls (1921- 2002) published his Theory of Justice also marked the launching of liberation theology with the publication of the homonymous work by the Peruvian Dominican Gustavo Gutiérrez Merino (1928-). Therefore, it seems interesting to relate Rawls as a representative of the global North and Gutiérrez as a representative of the global South in order to highlight coincidences and differences. Despite different epistemology (reason - faith), political preference (socialism - liberalism) and method (substantive starting point - formal procedure), both approaches coincide in the concern to serve with their reflections a just and well-ordered society (Rawls), which according to Gutiérrez signals the coming of the Kingdom of God. This coincidence owes to a Christian horizon of Rawls’ secular theory of justice and an openness of Gutiérrez’s theology to secular thought, and symbolizes an important and valuable North-South understanding within a globalizing and regionalizing world.
