    La teoría del conocimiento hobbesiana, además de ser una interpretación de la naturaleza y sus fenómenos, es una teoría sobre la legitimación del poder del Estado. La hipótesis sobre el estado de naturaleza y la antropología que de allí se deriva, son las categorías que permiten el establecimiento de pactos entre los individuos, los cuales ceden parcialmente su derecho natural por conveniencia personal. El Estado, artificio de las voluntades particulares, se legitima como soberano, representante del poder colectivo y, fundamentalmente, como protector de la originaria decisión individual de conservar la vida y el bienestar.

    The Hobbesian theory of knowledge, apart from being an interpretation of nature and its phenomena, is a theory on the legitimacy of state power. The hypothesis on the state of nature and on anthropology, originated there from, are categories allowing the establishment of pacts among individuals all of whom partially give up their natural right to personal convenience. The State, a device of private wills, legitimates itself as sovereign, representative of the collective power, and basically, as the protector of the original individual decision to preserve life and welfare.
