Resumen de Les investigacions sobre el carst i les coves de Mallorca: evolució dels coneixements i perspectives actuals

  Research carried out on the karst and caves of Mallorca Island has undergone great development over the last five decades, for a variety of reasons that have acted synergistically: the sudden emergence of Mallorcan caving activities, the bloom of local speleological publications and, finally, the launching and consolidation of university studies in the Balearics. In this paper a detailed review of the advances that have been produced is made, as much in the study of karst in general and its surface landforms or exokarst, as in the knowledge of the caves and chasms of the island and the deposits hosted within them. Special mention should be deserved to the works carried out on geochronological and paleoclimatic aspects, including the research on the phreatic overgrowths on speleothems (POS) from coastal caves of Mallorca and their relationship with ancient sea levels of the Mediterranean

  Les investigacions realitzades sobre el carst i les cavitats naturals de Mallorca han experimentat un gran desenvolupament durant les darreres cinc dècades, per motius ben diversos que han actuat de manera sinèrgica: l’eclosió de l’espeleologia mallorquina, l’aparició de publicacions espeleològiques locals i la instauració de la formació universitària a les Illes Balears. En aquestes pàgines es fa una revisió detallada dels avenços que s’han anat produint, tant en l’estudi del carst en general i les seves formes de superfície o exocarst, com en el coneixement de les coves i avencs de l’illa i els dipòsits que contenen. Especial menció mereixen els treballs desenvolupats sobre aspectes geocronològics i paleoclimàtics, entre els quals destaquen les investigacions portades a terme sobre els espeleotemes freàtics (POS) de les coves litorals de Mallorca i la seva relació amb antics nivells de la mar.
