• Resumen

  • In order to evaluate the susceptibility of generating debris flows in Catalan river basins on a regional level, a method has been analyzed to evaluate its application potential for the Geological Risk Prevention Map of Catalonia (1:25,000) map series, produced and published by the Institut Geològic de Catalunya. The method is based on that proposed by Wilford et al. (2004), on the basis of different morphometric catchments parameters. These parameters are area, length and basin relief, as well as the Melton ratio (relief/√area) and relief ratio (relief/length). The method has been validated in 29 dynamic torrential catchments with documented phenomena (flood, hyperconcentrated flow or debris flow). In 9 out of 10 cases, the dynamic type determined by the ratios proposed by Wilford et al. (2004) coincides with documented data
