El escepticismo filosófico es identificado por varios signos o nombres: Aporētikoí (ἀπoρητικoὶ), Ephektikoí (ἐφεκτικoὶ), Pyrrhōneioi (Πυρρώvειoι), Skeptikoí (σκεπτικoὶ) y Zētētikoí (ζητητικoὶ), con significantes todos ellos válidos y una cierta confusión en el significado. El objetivo de este trabajo es triple: primero, aclarar por qué alguno de estos nombres han tenido más éxito que otros, segundo, cuáles son las razones por las que uno de ellos (escéptico) ha quedado fijado como nombre, en general para todos los pertenecientes a este movimiento filosófico, y tercero a qué se debe que reconociendo la tradición un iniciador claro, Pirrón de Elis, y siendo el nombre “Pirrónicos” uno de los más populares y uno de los más utilizados por los escritores que hablan sobre este movimiento, no haya sido el más exitoso, como sí ha sido tradicional (pitagóricos, platónicos, aristotélicos, epicúreos, etc.,) en la mayoría de las demás doctrinas.

Philosophical skepticism is identified by several signs or names: Aporētikoí (ἀπoρητικoὶ), Ephektikoí (ἐφεκτικoὶ), Pyrrhōneioi (Πυρρώvειoι), Skeptikoí (σκεπτικoὶ) and Zētētikoí (ζητητικoὶ), with significant all of them valid and some confusion in meaning. The objective of this work is threefold: first, to clarify why some of these names have been more successful than others, second, what are the reasons why one of them (skeptic) has been fixed as a name, in general for all belonging to this philosophical movement, and third to what is due that recognizing the tradition a clear initiator, Pirrón de Elis, and being the name "Pirrónicos" one of the most popular and one of the most used by the writers who speak about this movement , has not been the most successful, as it has been traditional (Pythagoreans, Platonists, Aristotelians, Epicureans, etc.) in most other doctrines.
