“Estos murales dan vida”: Revalorización del espacio público, la historia y la identidad en el arte mural, festival Martín Fierro, San Martín, Argentina

    El objetivo del artículo es analizar el Encuentro Internacional de Muralismo, organizado en el marco del Festival Martín Fierro por la Municipalidad de San Martín, cuya convocatoria se basó en la figura de Martín Fierro y en la noción de “Encuentros en la frontera”. Este trabajo está basado en una investigación cualitativa realizada entre 2017 y 2020. Buscamos comprender los modos en que la temática del Encuentro es interpretada y resignificada por artistas latinoamericanos. También examinamos la transformación que estas prácticas artísticas despiertan en un espacio público degradado, y cómo el Encuentro —parte del Programa San Martín Pinta Bien— articula el arte como vehículo para desestigmatizar los barrios, y generar una positiva identificación con la historia y las memorias del lugar.

    The purpose of this article is to analyze a muralism festival organized by the municipality of San Martin, based on the theme of Martin Fierro and the notion of “Encounters at the border”. This study is based on qualitative research carried out between 2017 and 2020. We seek to understand the ways in which the themes of the Muralism festival are interpreted and resignified by Latin American artists. We also examine how these artistic practices transform a deteriorated public space, and how the Muralism festival, which is part of the Program San Martin Pinta Bien, constitutes a vehicle to de-stigmatize the neighborhoods, and generate a positive identification with the history and memories of the space.
