La Polineuropatía Amiloidótica Familiar (PAF) es una enfermedad hereditaria autosómica dominante de comienzo tardío que afecta preferentemente al sistema nervioso periférico con una evolución progresiva y fatal. A., gallega de 34 años, desde los 22 se sabía portadora aunque asintomática. Al fallecer varios familiares directos como consecuencia de la enfermedad (alguno desconociendo el tratamiento) y vivir un autentico drama, se siente amenazada durante años por la sombra de la incertidumbre hasta que por fin, lo que era un temor y sin querer creerlo se confirma como diagnóstico. Ella y su marido se convierten en unos luchadores contra reloj para buscar el tratamiento adecuado, es decir, el trasplante dominó en este caso, cuya espera marcada por la impotencia e impaciencia, se hace insoportable. A. consigue su ilusión: ser una mujer trasplantada en lugar de una enferma de PAF.
