Los orígenes fundamentales de la Psiquiatría española se sitúan en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, con una mayor influencia de los psiquiatras catalanes, de los cuales J. Giné y Partagás fue su máximo representante. Paralelamente, también fue muy importante el lugar ocupado por los profesionales madrileños, liderados en su inicio por P. Mata Fontanet y cuyos continuadores fueron fundamentalmente JMª Esquerdo y el discípulo de este, Jaime Vera López, de quien nos ocuparemos en este trabajo.
Más allá de su labor clínica, Vera fue conocido por la realización de peritajes forenses en casos muy mediáticos y sobre todo por su papel intelectual en la política española, siendo uno de los impulsores de la creación del Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE).

The foundations of Spanish Psychiatry date back to the second half of the 19th century thanks to the significant influence of Catalan psychiatrists such as J. Giné Partagás who were among their most illustrious representatives. Notwithstanding, professionals from Madrid occupied an important position. They were initially led by P.
Mata Fontanet who had among his main followers JMª Esquerdo and his disciple Jaime Vera López. In this work, we will be dealing with the latter.
Beyond his clinical work, Vera was known for conducting forensic expert reports in highprofile cases and above all for his intellectual role in Spanish politics. He was indeed one of the promoters of the creation of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE).
