La interpretación que el ser humano hizo del firmamento incluyó siempre una visión de las nubes cercana al antropomorfismo. Rostros infantiles de hinchados carrillos movían esos nimbos que parecían simbolizar atributos con los que la divinidad comunicaba a la tierra y sus habitantes diferentes estados de ánimo. En correspondencia, esos habitantes colocaron en las más altas arquitecturas desde las que pretendían relacionarse con sus dioses, unos objetos sonoros capaces de transmitir deseos en forma de oración.
Nubes y campanas se transformaron así en señales que relacionaban cielo y tierra.

The human interpretation of the sky always included a vision of the clouds close to anthropomorphism. Childish faces with puffy cheeks moved those nimbus that seemed to symbolize attributes with which the divinity communicated different moods to the earth and its inhabitants. Correspondingly, these inhabitants placed in the highest architectures from which they intended to relate to their gods, sound objects capable of transmitting wishes in the form of prayer. Clouds and bells were thus transformed into signs that related heaven and earth.
