Resumen de Histología del cerebro del escarabajo buceador Gyretes (Brullé, 1835) (Coleoptera: Gyrinidae).

  Se describe la estructura, organización y características de los neurópilos que conforman el cerebro del escarabajo buceador Gyretes sp. Los especímenes se colectaron en el municipio de la Vega, departamento de Cundinamarca, Colombia. Los cortes histológicos se realizaron longitudinalmente con micrótomo manual Leica RM2125 RTS a 11 µm, teñidos con hematoxilina-eosina y técnica de Golgi. El registro fotográfico se obtuvo con fotomicroscopio Zeiss DM 750. En esta investigación se encontró un cuerpo fungiforme de cuatro ramas y un complejo central especializado, que podrían estar vinculados con el comportamiento gregario y la habilidad de nado de este escarabajo. Se reportan conexiones neuronales de los diferentes lóbulos cerebrales y se concluye que las características histológicas del cerebro están influenciadas por la ecología del coleóptero.

  A description is provided of the structure, organisation and characteristics of the neuropiles that make up the brain of the diving beetle Gyretes sp. The specimens were collected in the municipality of La Vega, department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. The histological sections were performed longitudinally with a Leica RM2125 RTS manual microtome at 11 μm, stained with hematoxylin-eosin and the Golgi technique. The photographic record was obtained with a Zeiss DM 750 photomicroscope. During our research we found a fungiform body with four branches and a specialised central complex, which could be linked to the gregarious behaviour and the swimming ability of this beetle. Neural connections of the different cerebral lobes are reported and it is concluded that the histological characteristics of the brain are influenced by the beetle’s ecology.
