    El libro hebreo de Ester tiene seis protagonistas: Asuero, Vastí, Mardoqueo, Amán, Ester y los judíos. Se ha discutido mucho sobre cual de ellos tiene un papel principal. Mientras que hay distintos motivos para elegir uno u otro, casi nadie se decanta por el rey Asuero que ha sido puesto aparte como una caricatura de un monarca inútil. Partiendo de un análisis narrativo del texto hebreo del libro de Ester, este articulo estudia y argumenta la importancia de este personaje en la trama del relato y en la interpretación posterior del libro.

    The hebrew book of Esther has six main character: Ahasuerus, Vashti, Mordechai, Haman, Esther and the Jews. There is not an agreement on who is the main character. It seems that nobody chooses the king who is portrayed as a caricature of a useless monarch. Using the tools of narrative criticism, this article studies and argues the importance of this character in the plot of the account and the subsequent interpretation of the book.
