Resumen de La ‘película fluvial’ en Latinoamérica: una mirada comparativa

El imaginario colectivo referente a los grandes ríos latinoamericanos está en gran parte impregnado por representaciones cinematográficas, las cuales forman un grupo que se podría clasificar como ‘película fluvial’. Pero este término, además de aludir a los ríos como temática, insinúa una afinidad elemental entre el agua/el río y el cine como medio. El presente artículo analiza ejemplos significativos del cine colombiano (El abrazo de la serpiente) y argentino actuales (Los muertos, La León, Historias extraordinarias) para mostrar cómo se desarrolla el potencial semántico de las ‘películas fluviales’, precisamente a partir de la asociación de estos dos elementos.

The collective imaginary of the large Latin American rivers is to a great extent shaped by their cinematographic representations forming a group that could be classified as ‘fluvial film’. This term, however, refers not only to rivers as a subject-matter, but also implies the existence of fundamental affinities between the water/the river and the cinema as a medium. Based on significant examples from the recent cinema of Colombia (El abrazo de la serpiente) and Argentina (Los muertos, La León, Historias extraordinarias), this article explores how the semantic potential of the ‘fluvial films’ unfolds precisely between these two poles.
