As traduccións poden ter especial relevo no desenvolvemento dunha literatura nacional pois os textos traducidos poden mostrar novos modelos de construír as representacións da nación. Ese foi o caso da literatura dramática galega no primeiro tercio do século XX, cando un grupo de escritores e políticos decidiron crear un teatro nacional baseado tanto na tradición popu-lar e nacional como na apropiación de diversas correntes europeas, como o Abbey Theatre. Translations can play a significant role in the development ofnational literatures as long as the translated texts show new models of enacting the representations of the nation. That was the case with the Galician drama in the first quarter of the XXth century, when a group of writers and politicians decided to create a national theatre based both in the popular and national tra-ditions and in the appropriation of different European trends, such as the Abbey Theatre. In this paper we analyse the role played by Antón Vi llar Ponte in that process.
