La teórica «leyenda sevillana» siguió el rastro del mito «donjuanesco» identificándolo con la persona de Juan Jofré Tenorio y Álvarez de Toledo, trece y comendador santiaguista de Estepa, halconero y repostero mayor, caballero de la Banda y alcalde mayor de la Mesta.
Según algunos hispanistas en torno a dicho personaje histórico se fue urdiendo la leyenda del seductor disoluto y libertino que lleva el nombre de don Juan Tenorio, el cual finalmente incurrió en la ira y en el castigo divinos. Varios profesores consideran, pues, que este arquetipo literario tiene su origen en el personaje histórico de Juan (Jofré) Tenorio comendador de Estepa en época bajomedieval.

The theoretical «Seville legend» followed the trail of the «Donjuanesco» myth, identifying it with the person of Juan Jofré Tenorio and Álvarez de Toledo, thirteen and commander from Santiago de Estepa, falconer and master pastry chef, Knight of the Band and Mayor of the Mesta. According to some Hispanists around this historical figure, the legend of the dissolute and libertine seducer who carries the name of «Don Juan» Tenorio was woven, who finally incurred divine wrath and punishment. Therefore, several teachers consider that this literary archetype has its origin in the historical character of Juan (Jofré) Tenorio, commander of Estepa in the low-medieval period.
