    La dialéctica amo/siervo representa la lucha por el reconocimiento entre dos consciencias en lo que Hegel llamaba el “elemento de la vida”, en su existencia fenoméni-ca. Aunque dramática, la relación no es trágica: ambos pueden convivir en su indigencia y ambos pueden salvarse juntos. Pero bajo el fenómeno está la esencia, dos autoconsciencias luchando por el reconocimiento en una lucha a muerte; lucha trágica, pues al ser la cons-ciencia saber, muere la que acepta la verdad de otra y muere la que logra imponer la suya, pues la victoria la convierte en amo, pero no en señor, ya que este no surge del reconoci-miento del siervo.

    The master/servant dialectic represents the struggle for recognition between two consciousnesses in what Hegel called the “element of life”, in its phenomenal existence. Although dramatic, the relationship is not tragic: both can live together in their destitution and both can be saved together. But under the phenomenon lies the essence, two self-consciousnesses fighting for recognition in a fight to the death; a tragic struggle, for as consciousness is knowledge, wisdom, that which accepts the truth of the other will die, as will die that which manages to impose itself, for victory makes it into a master but not into a lord, since this condition arises from the recognition of equals, not from the recognition of the servant.
