  Este trabajo analiza aquellos factores que determinaron la conversión de Colonia Patricia Corduba, fundación romana en Hispania (siglo II a.C.), en centro de poder y capital de la provincia Baetica, condición que ostentó durante varios siglos en época imperial. Y se consideran desde diversas perspectivas:

  la geográfica (ubicación y condiciones topográficas); la política (servir como base militar, actuar como centro de gestión política y judicial, y ser sede de la religión estatal); y la socio-económica (cercanía a importantes áreas de producción, funcionar como importante eje de comunicaciones, y constituirse en destacado polo de atracción social y laboral).

  This paper analyzes those factors that determined the conversion of Colonia Patricia Corduba, a Roman foundation in Hispania (2nd century BC), into the center of power and capital of the Baetica province, a condition that it held for several centuries in imperial times. And they are considered from different perspectives: geographic (location and topographic conditions); politics (serving as a military base, acting as a center for political and judicial management, and being the seat of the state religion); and the socio-economic (proximity to important production areas, function as an important communications hub, and become an outstanding pole of social and labor attraction).
