Mi vida en una residencia de Mayores: "Esa es mi vida. Trabajar mucho para nada"

    La calidad de vida en la vejez preocupa actualmente a la sociedad, hay mayores que viven solos, sufren accidentes domésticos y tienen problemas de soledad, necesitando algún tipo de ayuda para mantener una mínima calidad de vida.

    Cuando les ingresan en una residencia, por iniciativa propia o con intervención de la familia, se producen unos cambios importantes en su vida que le obligan a adaptarse, lo que, a veces, es difícil.

    El relato siguiente es de una residente válida para el desempeño de las actividades de la vida diaria (AVD), que ingresa en la residencia por pánico a la soledad, tristeza, vacío y que le está costando adaptarse a la vida en la misma, nos cuenta su vida anterior al ingreso, sus relaciones familiares, los motivos para ingresar y su experiencia en la residencia, siendo ésta en general satisfactoria, ella misma manifiesta que "la verdad es que trabajo me está costando, y mucho, ya parece que ya estoy un poquito más a hacerme a ésto". Esta entrevista me ha resultado muy reveladora para poder mejorar las necesidades de los residentes y buscar formas para una mejor adaptación al medio.

    The quality of life in old age is a problem which worries the society nowadays. There are old people who live alone, suffer domestic accidents and have problems related to loneliness; so they need some kind of help.

    When they are admitted at an old people's home, by their own or by their family's decision, some changes in their lives obliged them to adapt to their new situation, which sometimes is not easy.

    The next report tells about the experiences of a resident good at fulfilling daily life activities (DLA), who is admitted because of her fear to loneliness, and her feelings of sadness and emptiness, and who also has difficulties in the adaptation to the life in the old people's home. She tells about her life before the admittance, her family relationships, her reasons to be admitted and her experience in the old people's home. However, as she said "The truth is that it is being difficult to me, very difficult; but now it seems to me that I have got myself used to live here". This interview has shown much disclosed in order to improve residents' needs and to look for the best ways to facilitate the process of adaptation to the environment.
