Starting from the hypothesis that the network society is not the result of the impact of the information and communication technologies (TIC), but rather a new social form resulting from the interaction of social evolution with technological evolution, this article attempts to analyze the social, cultural and educational challenges which the Catalan society is facing. This paper is based on the presentation of the most significant results of an in-depth empirical study on Catalonia as a network society, a society on the Internet, considered both as a communication medium and as a factor of transformation. The Internet has a significant influence on the redefinition and cohesion of the community, of identity, of democracy and other forms of social organization and at the same time makes sense of the emergence of a society which experiences the global/local dynamic with complete normality.
